(As. Seslerio autumnalis-Fagetum M. Wraber ex Borhidi 1963)
The community grows on the southern slopes of the Dinara mountain range from Istria through northern and central Littoral to Biokovo, but as an extrazonal community it also invades the mainland part of Croatia (Istria, Lika). It is developed on skeletal carbonate soils (most commonly cambisol and melanosol on limestone and rendzina on dolomite). Apart from the beech, the tree layer also includes Ostrya carpinifolia, Acer obtusatum and Sorbus aria. The shrub layer contains Cornus mas, Viburnum lantana and Lonicera xylosteum, while the layer of herbaceous vegetation is dominated by Sesleria autumnalis with frequent appearances of Campanula trachelium, Calamintha grandiflora, Convallaria majalis, Lathyrus vernus, Melittis melissophyllum and other species.
