The principle of honey extraction from beeswax honeycombs by using centrifugal force was discovered in Italy in 1865 by Francesco Hruska. According to oral tradition, his son, when he was retrieving honey frames from bee hives, fought the bees which followed him by swinging the honeycombs. Consequently, honey flew, and the idea was transferred to the first honey extractor. However, it was not immediately accepted, until American businessmen bought it off as an “interesting but useless machine” and started its mass production.
